Chinese Phone Maker MI told Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note are set to get the upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow soon. The handsets will be the first in line to receive the new OS, with no word on when the brand’s other offerings will get the software.
Xiaomi also clarified that the Xiaomi Mi 4 and Mi Note will still run on the handset maker’s own MIUI 7, just that it will be based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead of Lollipop. Both the devices were initially launched last year and ran the KitKat OS. The news about the update was officially announced by the company’s Operations Manager through a post on Weibo.
According to NDTV, he didn’t reveal when the upgrade will happen, but confirmed that a closed beta version is set to be released soon. Also hopefully arriving in the near future is the Xiaomi Mi 5, the manufacturer’s upcoming flagship phone. It’s been delayed for a while now, with the brand’s CEO Lei Jun asserting that the device was very good and would prove to be worth the wait.
Microsoft and Xiaomi recently went ahead and released a Windows 10 Mobile ROM for the Mi 4. The new OS is only compatible with the LTE-ready version of the smartphone and does not work with any other. Once it has been downloaded and installed, it completely removes the pre-existing MIUI Android-based software and replaces it with a pure Windows experience.
