Flipkart to go mobile only from September

Following its sub-brand Myntra’s app-only strategy, Flipkart is now planning to go app-only soon. As per a report published by theTimes of India, the company might be implementing the new model in September.

flipkartFlipkart has whopping 45 million registered users with more than 10 million of daily visits. Around 75% of the total traffic comes from Fxipkart’s mobile platform, keeping these numbers in mind, the company has decided to go completely app-only and shut down the website. Flipkart’s chief product officer, Puneet Soni, revealed the new strategy to the employees, as per the report.

Interestingly, the same strategy implemented by Myntra didn’t go very well, as the company witnessed 10% of decline in sales after shutting down its website. It is certainly not going to be a cakewalk for Flipkart as well, however, the company is taking noteworthy steps in enhancing its app’s experience for users. The company recently launched a new image search feature for its application, which enables users to search for the product visually. It would be interesting to see how the users react to this decision by Flipkart.
